Honoring the Indigenous people of North America, and more specifically the Potowomut area of Rhode Island, this piece is a sculptural assemblage of found objects gathered from the grounds of The Grange, a colonial estate built in the early 1700s. It also incorporates artifacts from New England’s industrial past, including machine molds once used in foundries to create components for large-scale machinery.
A caliper within the composition contains a buffalo nickel, included as a gesture of respect and recognition for the people who came from, and those who continue to live in, the Potowomut Neck area of Rhode Island.
